Could 5G edge computing become 5G’s saving grace? :Status Report

Wait, wasn’t 5G supposed to be about greater bandwidth, faster service, and more options for consumer streaming? While we’re waiting for one revolution to start, perhaps another one can be jump-started downtown.

We don’t know yet why [Multi-Access Edge Computing] will benefit end-users, over and above what a micro edge data center, or even a relatively small facility. . . can offer them. Once again, someone has to pave the last mile, light it up, and throw a party there. Otherwise, we won’t see it happen. And that would be as good as it never having happened at all.
